Out of order pic on Calle Ocho. They had several of these colorful roosters all around. So, we had to do Plan C for our day back in Miami after we got off the ship. I missed a window (that I should have investigated a little further, but now we know for next time!) to do an Everglades tour, so we decided to do the Wynwood District which is an area of Miami that has all this bunch of cool paintings on buildings. It was very cool, it took a little bit of time to get there using the trolley system, but we eventually made it.
More cool art on the buildings.
So I had been wanting to go to Little Havanna on Miami ever since we booked our cruise. I have SO many happy and fond memories of an adorable older Cuban couple I met on my mission in my first area, Carlos y Nancy, that just seriously took me under their wing for a few months and made me the BEST food. So when we asked our Uber driver to recommend us somewhere, he said he was FROM Cuba, and totally called a woman on the phone and told her we were coming to her place. This is the restaurant. Habana con B. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and we likely NEVER would have found it if we had just randomly got dropped off in Little Havanna (since I think this is a little outside the main area), but I was SO glad we did.
This place was TOTALLY amazing. It's this married couple that work in the kitchen and their daughter is the server. She was SO amazingly cordial, kind, and just the nicest person EVER. Carlos y Nancy flashbacks to a true degree. Here she is Lauren, and she was just awesome. More than that, the food was amazing too.
She told us a little bit about the history of doing the restaurant and their life story, and it was just the highlight FOR SURE of our time in Miami. Wanted to record all this down so if we ever get back to Miami, we are TOTALLY going there. Then we just headed to the airport a little early and flew home. It was such a NICE break from regular life.
