Right before the waterfall, out of order pic. So when we had had to switch our family summer vacation plans to a different location, when I investigated Escalante and around the area, ALL I heard about was Lower Calf Creek Falls and how it was so great. Doing further investigation I saw it was 6 miles RT which is much further than all our whole family has ever done, but I figured if we did it first thing early in the morning it wouldn't be too hot. And the reviews said it wasn't a "hard" hike just sometimes tricky because of sand. So we risked it and I woke everyone up super early and we were on the trail basically by 745 am. Here is right at the start. This hike, at least for me, was one of the prettier "during the hike" hikes we have done. Our family has done a lot of hikes, and sometimes the payout is at the end (which I agree the waterfall here was awesome), but this had such pretty blue sky and gorgeous red rocks everywhere. And we saw basically NO ONE on the trail.
For the most part, the whole way out to the waterfall was in shade because we had left so early. I was SO glad because on the way back very little shade and we were feeling the heat. My special blue sky!
Climbing around.Right near the waterfall, it was all this greenery and bamboo which was so fun and strange, especially since all around were totally red rocks. It was very unique to me.
Liam was so nice to carry a backpack full of waters. We would definitely need them on the way out!
